LAELI 2010 - Linguística Aplicada ao Educador de Língua Inglesa - UFPE- 2nd DAY

Hello Teachers!
So here I am to talk about the second day of the LAELI 2010 event. As I already told you about on the last post, lots of talks, presentations, projects were part of this awesome symposium. The second day wouldn't be different. The Friday morning started with a round table about Motivating Students to write in the public sector - an impossible task?with Prof. Ms. Julia Larré as you can see on the pictures below:

Here you can also see the PhD Prof. Maria Cristina Damianovic,
the responsible for the event, and one of the monitors.

In the afternoon, at 3:30 p.m., there were 3 workshops. The one I chose was about A importância da Fonética e Fonologia no Ensino da Língua Inglesa with Prof. Ms. Carlos Leite from Cultura Inglesa.

The last talk was given by Prof. Ms. Ilana de Belli Claudino, Espec. Antônio José de Almeida Júnior and Espec. Fernanda Araújo Bonfim about Educação Ambiental, História, Geografia do Brasil e Língua Portuguesa: uma rica Experiência Interdisciplinar em Escola Bilíngue. The presentation had a special guest, a 4th grade student who presented for the first time, a project at a university. Check it out!

I would like to thank the PhD Prof. Cristina Damianovic for the event, and for her kind words every time we needed her help. Thanks a lot!
Thank you to Prof. Janaína Luna, who helped me in every way, a great company during the event, a great professional and an awesome Maracatu drum player! LOL
And, of course, it was great seeing all my friends from the American School of Recife again! Congratulations on the project guys!

Hello guys!

Have you ever heard about LAELI? It is an event that is taking place today (Nov/18th) and tomorrow (Nov/19th) at Pernambuco Federal University (UFPE) . I've just arrived home, and It was fantastic! Lots of discussions about education, environment, citizenship and lots of new people to meet, connect, and widen our network. If you did not go to the event today, you should go tomorrow! As the PhD Professor Francisco Gomes de Matos said, It is a must see! "You gotta go!".
The opening conference was at 8 a.m., then the PhD Professor Francisco Gomes de Matos, gave a talk about Linguística Aplicada Humanizadora e a Formação do Professor de Inglês, a fantastic talk, a unique opportunity for those who were there. There were 3 workshops in the morning: 1 - Porque ensinar em inglês vai além do ensino de inglês - Uma proposta de educação bilíngue para seres multiculturais (Prof. Viviane Klen Alves - Oak Tree International School / LACE- PUC-SP); 2 - Sala de Aula e colaboração com mini-sagas...mas que gênero é esse? (Professor Master Júlia Larré - Moinho de Vento Publisher); 3 - Atividade Social: Formação e Ação no Contexto Educacional - (Professor Helena Miascovsky - Stance Dual School/PUC-SP).
There was also a round table at 11 a.m. about As Escolas de Língua Inglesa e as Ações Sociais: Yes, Schools can change someone's life!, with Prof. Ms. Helena Miascovsky, the Pedagogic Director Annie Bittencourt (Yázigi Internexus - Recife) and the moderator PhD Professor Francisco Costa. In the afternoon, there was a great talk about Bilingualismo, Inglês Global e Identidades Híbridas: Intersecções entre Línguas, Culturas e Identidades, by Prof. Ms. Selma de Assis Moura (Singularidades
Institute - UNICAMP), which I didn't know at that moment, but I had already become a fan of her website before, and then, I had the pleasure to meet her at the Symposium, as you can see below:

There was also the release of "COME IN", a collection of English course books, by Márcia Modesto, Juliana Alpes, Sidney Pratt and Vera Moura. The authors engaged the audience in some activities and presented the new book emphasizing all the relevant aspects of how to use it in the classroom. After the presentation, there was a raffle, and I got a book! YES! Not only me but a lot of people in the room, including my dear friend and teacher at the American School of Recife, Janaína Luna! =D
Tomorrow, the event will begin at 8 a.m. and will have its end at 5:30 p.m. at UFPE, in the Communication and Arts Center area (CAC)
